From the Garden to the Cross: The Mystery of Salvation

This Sunday at Rock Island Cumberland Presbyterian Church felt like one of those quiet, sacred mornings that stays with you long after you leave.
Under Pastor Barry Boggs’ message, “The Mystery of Salvation,” we were gently led through the breathtaking story of redemption, beginning in the very first pages of Scripture and unfolding all the way to Christ. We were reminded how, even in the Garden, when sin first entered and fear replaced innocence, God was already speaking hope. Even then, He was pointing forward to the One who would come, suffer, and ultimately restore what was broken.
Our Scripture reading from 1 Peter 1:10–12 reminded us that the prophets searched and longed to understand what we now know so clearly. They spoke of the suffering of Christ and the glory that would follow, guided by the very Spirit of Christ within them. What they waited for, we now live in. What they looked toward from a distance, we have come to know personally.
From Genesis to the prophets, and finally to Jesus, we were reminded that salvation was never an accident and never a last-minute rescue. It was God’s plan from the beginning, patiently unfolding through history, love, sacrifice, mercy, and grace.
Our worship reflected that beautiful story as we sang
“Praise Him! Praise Him!” (Hymn #149),
“He Keeps Me Singing” (Hymn #148),
and closed with “I Stand Amazed in the Presence” (Hymn #237).
Each hymn felt like a response to the wonder of what God has done for us.
There was such a gentle reminder woven throughout the service: because we now know who Christ is, because we have been forgiven, and because the Holy Spirit lives within us, we are called to live differently, with hope, reverence, and grateful hearts as we wait for His return.
If you are searching for a church family, longing for deeper meaning, or simply needing a place to be reminded of God’s faithful love, we would truly love to welcome you.
